Broken Hill's Mining Heritage Displayed Through Its Gateway Sign
Nestled in Australia's Outback, Broken Hill boasts a rich mining history. At the city's gateway stands a new landmark—the Broken Hill Gateway Sign, paying homage to this heritage.
Design Highlights
The sign features a head frame, symbolising the city's mining past, and a depiction of the traditional hammer and tap mining method. What sets it apart is its interactive design, allowing visitors to pose with a Silver 3 air leg rock drill for photos, bringing the mining experience to life.
A Community Collaboration
Crafted by Spicer's Creative and manufactured by FabTec, with laser cutting by APS, the sign is a product of local expertise and collaboration. The Broken Hill City Council's Gateway Signage Committee facilitated the project, showcasing community spirit in preserving the city's history.
A Symbol of Pride
More than a mere sign, this structure embodies Broken Hill's resilience and history. It welcomes visitors to explore the city's vibrant past and present, offering a glimpse into its mining legacy.
Broken Hill's Rich Heritage: Four other Iconic Signs Ready to Unveil Broken Hill’s Story
In addition to the Broken Hill Gateway Sign, four other signs are ready for installation, each highlighting a different aspect of Broken Hill's history and culture.
The Royal Flying Doctor sign pays tribute to the vital medical service that has served the remote areas of Australia, including Broken Hill, for decades.
The Pastoralist sign showcases the agricultural heritage of the region, acknowledging the importance of graziers in sustaining the local community.
The Art and Culture sign celebrates Broken Hill's vibrant artistic community and rich cultural history, recognising the city as a hub of creativity and expression.
Lastly, the Unionism sign honours the city's strong history of union activism, recognising the pivotal role unions played in improving working conditions for miners and other workers in Broken Hill. Each sign adds a layer of depth to the city's story, inviting visitors to delve into its diverse and fascinating history.
Mundi Mundi Bash - Set Of 3 Metal Fabricated Signs made from Corten Steel
We are delighted to showcase one of our past projects that holds a special place in our hearts—the Set of 3 signs we designed for the Mundi Mundi Bash. These signs are made from corten steel, adding a unique and rustic charm to their design.
It was an incredible honor to have been invited by festival founder Greg Donovan to create these signs, and we are immensely proud of the end result.
